How we promote.
The channels we use, the ones we refuse to use, and why the rules are written down in public.
Where we put these links
- In our own comparison pages, guides and reviews, always marked Ad.
- On this site only. We don’t put vendor links in forum posts, in comments, or anywhere we haven’t told the vendor about.
- In a newsletter, if we ever run one, only to people who asked for it, with “Ad” at the start of any item that carries an affiliate link.
- In social posts, with “Ad” at the very start of the post. We don’t rely on the word “affiliate” alone, because the UK advertising regulator has found that many people don’t understand it.
- In videos, with “Ad” in the title or on screen and in the description, before the link.
Where we won’t put them
- No paid advertising. Every vendor we review forbids using its affiliate link in paid ads. In Smartlead’s words, “it is prohibited to use your affiliate link in any paid media, including search engine ads, Facebook ads, or any similar platforms that may compete with Smartlead’s marketing efforts”. lemlist bans pay-per-click, search, social and display ads outright, and Snov.io says that using PPC marketing to get referrals isn’t allowed. We don’t run any paid ads, and we don’t plan to.
- No bidding on brand names. We don’t bid on Instantly, Smartlead, Saleshandy, Snov.io or lemlist, or on their domain names.
- No unsolicited bulk email. This site publishes guidance on cold email, so this matters more here than anywhere. We never send mass email carrying affiliate links, and we never post them into groups.
- No coupon or fake discount pages. We only quote a vendor’s real, current offer.
- No pretending to be the vendor. No fake staff accounts, no fake support pages, no impersonation in search results.
- No self-referral. We don’t buy tools through our own links, and we don’t claim credit for a referral that didn’t come through a tracked link.
Why we publish this
So you can check that we follow our own rules, and because the vendors we work with hold us to stricter ones. If you find a link here that breaks what’s written on this page, tell us at info@coldmailing.co.uk and we’ll remove it and say what happened.
Asking first
Some programmes ask us to get approval before we use a channel they haven’t already approved. Where that applies, we ask first and wait for the answer. If we can’t get approval for a channel, we don’t use it.
